Q: Are PE teachers restricted by the "150 students per day" contact rule? A: PE teachers can have up to 250 students per day.
-
Q: What is the user name and password for Web Based Training? A: Use your regular user name and the password is "ncwise2007".

Q: Is a homebound student counted absent and if so, what code do we use? A: Any time a student is placed on Homebound and is receiving those services from a Homebound teacher, that student is counted as PRESENT. No absence code is entered into NC Wise for that time period. It is just as if the student is there, in class, each day.

Q: Re: (Caldwell County School Student Information Verification form Elementary & Middle Schools)
I am getting forms etc. ready for our upcoming 2007/08 Kinders and was wondering IF this form will be revised or stay the same for next year. It is my understanding it is to be used countywide, correct? Also is this form retrievable from the county website? A: The form to be used for anyone already in the system is the one from NC Wise - Student Information Verification Sheet - per Dr. Burns. You can also print a blank one of these and make copies to use for those new to the system if you wish (kinders). That way, all students will have the same form with the same information, but that is up to your principal as I understand it.
As for the "Official" blank form that has been used in the past, I have no input into that form so I really couldn't say if it will be revised in any way or if it is available on the county website. You may want to check with either Ervil Anderson ( HYPERLINK "mailto:eanderson@caa.k12.nc.us" eanderson@caa.k12.nc.us) or her assistant, Joy Crouse ( HYPERLINK "mailto:jcrouse@caa.k12.nc.us" jcrouse@caa.k12.nc.us). I think Ervil was actually involved in the development of the form initially.

Q: I have a teacher that needs EOG Math scores. I am trying to do an ad hoc file to get an Excel spread sheet. The teacher needs the previous year's EOG Math Percentile for 6th and 7th graders. The 6th graders would be 5th grade and the 7th graders would be 6th grade. I can do the ad hoc file, but what I need to know is how do I just get the grade and percentile for the year/test score I need? I have tried and I get all test scores for all the tests each student has taken. Can you help me? A: When you do an Ad Hoc to get your test scores you can't get just one test...you get them all. And that's okay, all you have to do is when you open the data in Excel you will sort by the year and choose descending. that will put the most recent scores at the top of your spreadsheet. then you can scroll down and delete the scores from years you don't need. you can also then delete the scores from last year that you don't need (ie: writing test, etc.). once you've deleted the data you don't need you will be left with only the data you do need then you can sort or group the data and/or students however you need them

Q: We have a student that will be attending West as a freshman for 2007/2008 from a middle school in the Hibriten district. The data manager has already gone through the pre-trans and all students have been sent to Hibriten. How or what do I need to do to pull this student into West? A: Before you do anything else you will need to call Hibriten and let them know that this student will not be attending their school next year so they can remove any course selections for him before you change his school for next year. Once they have removed his course selections you will then follow the steps below.
You just need to go to your Pre Transition List (SCHOOL, PRE TRANSITION, PRE TRANSITION LIST) and find this student. You will then change the school number in the NEXT SCHOOL column to 390 for West Caldwell and then tab to the next column. A screen will popup for you to select the correct school name (there are many schools in the state with the same 3 digit number). Once you've selected the correct school name you will then go to the bottom of the screen and enter 8/24/07 and E1 then SAVE.
You will do this for any student who has a change in schools for next year. If the student will be attending a school in our county you will enter the new school number following instructions above. If the student will be going to another county or out of state you will simply remove the NEXT SCHOOL and leave that column blank.

Q: I had to drop a student from one teacher's class and put him in another teacher's class (due to behavior issues). I did this successfully except it keeps showing him in the first teacher's homeroom. Can you look at this for me? A: This student will still be on the first teacher's spreadsheet (in red) because there are grades linked to him in that class from previous grading periods. His name can't be removed at this time. If it bothers the teacher for his name to be in the list, she can put a number 1 in the sequence column beside all her present students listed on the initial screen of her gradebook. After she saves the sequence (button at the bottom of the screen), anyone not there (which that student isn't...he's only on her spreadsheet), will remain a 0 and appear at the top of the spreadsheet. He's still there, but not in alphabetical order.

Q: One of my 5th grade teachers sent me an email with grade corrections for the 3rd Nine Weeks for her conduct grades. I have entered all corrections needed except for a student who has since wdr. from our school. Can you correct his conduct grade to "C" ? Please advise. Thanks ! A:
I can't change any grades for withdrawn students even if they have moved to a school in our LEA. The report card grades are lost when the student transfers schools. Sorry.
