One of the three required Mathematics must be Algebra I. One of the three required Social Studies must be in Economic, Legal, Political Systems (ELP), one must be U.S. History, and one must be in world studies. One of the three required Sciences must be in biology, one must be a physical science, and one must be an earth/environmental science course. For the Class of 2001 and beyond, a fifth English credit is required for graduation. This requirement, to be taken in the fall semester of the freshman year, focuses on reading and language skills. In addition, the State Board of Education has identified four courses of study options leading to a diploma: CAREER PREP - General requirements listed above plus 4 elective credits in Workforce Development in a selected cluster. COLLEGE TECH PREP - General Requirements listed above plus 4 elective credits in a selected cluster. Also Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II or Algebra I, Tech Math I, II. COLLEGE PREP - General requirements listed above plus 2 credits in second language are required for Class of 2004 and one additional math credit for Class of 2006. Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II (or higher level) required. OCCUPATIONAL PREP - Available only to certain identified Exceptional Children with a current Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Only students who have satisfied all State Board of Education and Caldwell County Board of Education requirements are eligible to receive diplomas.
