Appalachian State University
- The Prestigious Scholars Program through the Heltzer Honors Program at ASU is looking for students in the top 5% of their high school class, with Math + Verbal SAT scores of at least 1250 (29 for ACT) on average. Apply soon before space is no longer available!
AXA Achievement Scholarships
- The AXA Achievement Scholarships awards $10,000 or $25,000 to students active in their community. Applications are due by December 15th and are found at www.axa-achievement.com.
Ayn Rand Anthem Essay Contest
- For 9th and 10th graders, the Ayn Rand Anthem Essay Contest offers 521 prizes including over $81,000 in award money. Deadline is April 26, see your counselor for details.
- For 11th and 12th graders, the Ayn Rand 'The Fountainhead Essay Contest' is available. Deadline is April 26, see your counselor for details.
Big Sun Scholarship
- The Big Sun Organization is offering a scholarship to a deserving student athlete. The deadline to apply is June 24th. Go to http://www.bigsunathletics.com to apply.
Dr. Seuss's Oh, the Places You'll Go! Scholarship
- For high school seniors who understand and value the limitless possibilities that education can offer. For this $5000 scholarship application visit www.ohtheplaces.org or see Mrs. Miller. Postmark Deadline: February 15.
The First Freedom Student Essay Competition
- This national essay contest to compete for various amounts of money ranging from $750 to $3000 is available to 9th-12th grade students. Visit www.firstfreedom.org for more information. Entry deadline is Monday, November 23.
Greensboro College Scholarships
- If any senior is interested in attending Greensboro College, there is information about various scholarships in the counseling services office. Deadlines for these scholarships are December 15 and March 1.
The JFK Profile in Courage Essay Contest
- The JFK Profile in Courage Essay Contest awards up to $5,000 to winners who write an essay of 1,000 words or less. Essay should cover the decisions, actions, and risks of an elected public official in the U.S. Please see Mrs. Miller for details on the essay contest. Essays are due January 9, 2010.
Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC
- Students with at least a 3.5 GPA are eligible for the Golden Scholar Program, which includes a full scholarship to the university. Call Mrs. Carolyn Scipio Glover at (301) 342-0140 or (240) 383-2855 for more information.
Kenneth N. Houston Scholarship
- If you are interested in pursuing a career in construction, civil engineering, architecture, or drafting, please apply for the $1,000 Kenneth N. Houston Scholarship. Applications are due by April 2010. Please see Mrs. Miller for application and more detailed information.
KFC Colonel's Scholars Program
- Seniors with a GPA of 2.75 or higher and planning to attend a NC public university can apply for the $20,000 KFC Colonel's Scholars Program. The application will be online at www.kfcscholars.org from Dec. 1st through February 10th.
The Law Offices of Michael A. DeMayo
- The Law Offices of Michael A. DeMayo offers seniors ten $2,500 scholarships. Seniors must be enrolling in a 4-year college or university and prepare a presentation that encourages teens to abstain from underage drinking and driving. Applications can be found at www.demayolaw.com and are due on March 1st.
The Levine Scholars Program at UNC-Charlotte
- Student must be a senior applying for the Fall 2010 semester at UNC-Charlotte. To be eligible, you must have an unweighted GPA of 3.8 or higher and combined score of 1800 on the SAT or 29 on the ACT. You also must demonstrate commitment to community service and ethical leadership. This program includes a full ride to UNC-Charlotte. See Mrs. Miller by November 9, if you're interested.
The National Commission for Cooperative Education (NCCE) Scholarships
- The NCCE awards 170 $6,000 scholarships that are renewable each year to students who attend one of the eight NCCE partner colleges and universities. For a complete list of partner colleges and more information, please see Mrs. Miller. Applications are due by February 15.
The National Teenager Scholarship Organization
- The National Teenager Scholarship Organization is accepting applications until February 27, 2010. The Pageant will be held on March 27, 2010, and participants will be scored on academics, community service, a personal interview, and other pageant elements. To apply, please visit www.ncscnationalteen.com.
North Carolina Division of Veterans Affairs
- The NC Division of Veterans Affairs offers a scholarship to children of disabled, deceased, combat, or POW/MIA war veterans. Full-tuition to a state university or community college is offered, with smaller amounts provided for private institutions. Applications are due March 1st. For more information and full eligibility requirements contact the Caldwell County Veterans Service office at (828) 757-1345 or the NC Division of Veterans Affairs District office at (828) 430-7136.
North Carolina State University--Education Scholarship Awards Program
- Students interested in careers in the education field and attending NC State University should apply for the Scholarship Awards Program. The NC State College of Information is hosting a variety of information sessions throughout the fall. For more information on the Scholarship Awards Program and information sessions, please see your school counselor.
NC Reach Scholarship

Presbyterian College Scholarships
- For any senior interested in attending Presbyterian College, the counseling services office has information on a variety of scholarships offered by the college. In order to qualify, you must submit an application for admission by November 15th.

The Rob Gothson Scholarship
- If you live in North Carolina or have received treatment at a hospital in North Carolina, please check out this scholarship sponsored by the North Carolina Association for the Education of Chronically Ill Children (NCAECIC). Application must be mailed by April 1. See Mrs. Miller for application and details.
SunTrust Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes
- SunTrust is offering $1,000 to a high school senior every two weeks from October to May. Eligibility is not based on GPA or financial need. Registration begins on September 14 and you can re-enter every two weeks. See counseling services for details.
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro Merit Awards Program
- High school seniors that plan to attend UNC-Greensboro in the fall of 2010 are encouraged to apply for the Merit Awards Program. To be eligibly, you must have a minimum SAT score of 1800 or ACT score of 27, a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, and be accepted to UNC-Greensboro by January 4. Applications for the Merit Awards Program are also due on January 4. Please see Mrs. Miller for more information.
