NORTH CAROLINA DRIVING SCHOOL INC. The Caldwell County School System has contracted with North Carolina Driving School Inc. to provide Driver Education at no cost to the student. Students must be at least 14 ½ years old, and enrolled in a public, private, or home school. It is very important for students to sign up shortly after they reach 14 ½ years of age. We use the first come, first served method of selecting the oldest student applicants to participate in the classroom and behind- the- wheel instruction. After class work completion, students will be selected by class first and then by age, with the oldest student in each class selected first to drive. Please take advantage of this opportunity to attend driver education classes as early as possible. Each student needs as much driving practice as possible, after he or she receives a learner’s permit. The Driver Education course consists of 30 classroom hours, as well as 6 hours of behind the wheel instruction. Classes will be scheduled immediately after the regular school day, for three hours each day for 11 regular school days. Additional classes will be offered during the summer. Saturday class times are from 8:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Summer class times are from 7:45 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The behind-the-wheel instruction will be scheduled between 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on school days and between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturdays and during the summer. If you have any questions about Driver Education classes, contact the driver education coordinator at your school.
