  • Enrollment of approximately 512 students.

  • Designated as a "Triple S" Super Safe School by DPI
  • Teachers integrate core curriculum with arts.
  • School of Distinction 1997-1998, 1999-2000, and 2003-2004
  • School of Excellence 2000-2001, 2001-2002, and 2002-2003
  • Only school in Caldwell County to earn School of Excellence three consecutive years.
  • Fourth and fifth grade students involved in SmartBlock which emphasizes Howard Gardner's seven multi-intelligences.
  • Peer Helper program pairing "People Smart" Students to tutor younger students.
  • School-wide participation in Accelerated Reading Program.
  • Programs used by teachers include Wings--Thinking Skill Program - K/1; Pat Cunningham's 4 Block Instruction - 1st; D'Nealian Handwriting - K/2, and Sonday Reading Program.
  • Grants awarded include 5th annual WJZY Student TV Mini Grants; UTOTES -- Using the Outdoor to Teach Experiential Science; Keep NC Clean and Beautiful; and Artist in Residence Grant -- North Carolina Folk Artist and Crime Stoppers First Place Video Award. 
  • Walking park with amphitheater and Davenport Historical Museum are part of school campus.
  • Outdoor classrooms have been created to expand hands-on science curriculum.
  • Yearly Arts Extravaganza provided by PTA.  Artists include musicians, potters, spinners, weavers, and visual artists.

The A+ Schools Program is a nationally recognized whole-school reform model that views the arts as fundamental to how teachers teach and students learn in all subjects.

A "home grown" North Carolina program serving PreK-12 public schools since 1995, the Program combines arts integration, continuous professional development, and the use of statewide support networks for teachers and administrators to implement a state's mandated curriculum and meet accountability standards.
