Bright Ideas Grant Winner

  Mrs. Fox wrote the Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation Bright Ideas grant for $1062. She asked for funding to purchase a fishertechnik Profi Eco Power kit. This kit extends the eighth grade automation and robotics unit to SchoolCenter Picture include clean and renewable energy sources as part of their nine week rotation through gateway to technology.  It allows students to build and program devices that use solar, wind and water as their  main energy sources and conduct experiments with each.

Adina Jan - 3rd Place Caldwell County Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Tucker Green who was awarded second place in the Young Writers catagory of the Caldwell Literary Competition.

 The Caldwell County Public Library and the Caldwell Arts Council established this Literary Competition in 1992 to encourage writers in the pursuit of excellence in their craft and to offer a unique opportunity for public recognition of their artistic talents. 


SchoolCenter PictureCongratulaions to WLMS students Tucker Green and Madison Setzer for winning acting awards at the Foothills Performing Arts annual Willy Awards Banquet. They were awarded The Willy Award for their performances in Cheaper By the Dozen.


SchoolCenter Picture The Caldwell Recitation Contest was held Saturday, February 28. The recitation Contest is open to all Caldwell County middle school students with prize money ranging from $100 to $250.  Students are expected to memorize and recite a classic or famous literary piece, 3-5 minutes in length.  They are judged on poise, presentation, voice and degree of difficulty.

WLMS was well represented by the following students:

William Sherrill who presented "A County Boy in Winter" a poem by Sarah Orne Jewett.

Madeline Hanson who presented "The Night Before Christmas" by Clement Moore.

Madison Setzer who presented Chapter II "The Garden of Love Flowers" from Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass.  Congratulations to Madison who placed 7th in the contest.

William Lenoir Middle School held its first ever Poetry Slam recently.  Parents and friends gathered to hear eighteen students perform their original poetry.  The competition was judged on enthusiasm, volume, clarity, and preparedness.  The WLMS PTA donated cash prizes for the event.  Winners were as follows: first place Ashlee Taylor, second place Tonique Bowers and Emily Ingram, third place Kayla Harper, and honorable mention Jake Vapniarek.

Congratulations to WLMS Spelling Bee winner Emily McFarland and runner up, Maggie Nelson.

Emily also placed second in the county Spelling Bee.


Bright IdeasCongratulations to Mrs. Everhardt and Mrs. Fox , who were awarded a $903.00 Bright Ideas Grant from Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation. The grant will be used to teach students about sustainable energy resources. These two teachers do an outstanding job with WLMS' Project Lead the Way program. They will incorporate hands on activities regarding renewable and sustainable energy into this technology program. Please take a moment and congratulate Mrs. Everhardt and Mrs. Fox for receiving the Bright Ideas Grant.

SchoolCenter PictureEighth Grade Chorus performs for the NC Music Educators

  The William Lenoir Middle School Chorus performed at the North Carolina Music Educators Association In-Service Conference on Monday, November 10, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in the Benton Convention Center, Winston Salem.  The chorus was chosen as one of two choruses in the state to perform for approximately 400 music educators, administrators, parents, and friends.  The students prepared five selections of music, one selection from the Grade Two festival list, one from the Grade Three list, and two from the Grade Four list.  The students sounded magnificent!
