| Parents of children who are attending William Lenoir Middle School or will eventually attend the existing William Lenoir Middle School are invited to attend these special meetings to view plans of the new school, hear important information about the construction project and have an opportunity to ask questions about the Caldwell County Board of Education's comprehensive plan for a new, state-of-the-art middle school in Lenoir. In order to facilitate the meeting within the one-hour timeframe, parents are asked to submit their questions in writing one week prior to the scheduled meeting date. Congratulations to Cathy Harmon, EC Teacher at Granite Falls Elementary School, for being selected as the Caldwell County Schools 2009-2010 Teacher of Excellence
. Ms. Harmon recently represented CCS at the Conference for Exceptional Children in Greensboro and was recognized during the statewide banquet. She has been an EC teacher for 25 years at Granite Falls Elementary. She serves as lead EC teacher in the GFES EC program and was the first EC teacher in the county to implement Responsiveness to Instruction (RTI), a leader in this initiative for the last three years.

Caldwell County School students installed as Northwest District Beta Club officers: Priscilla "PQ" Liu (HHS) as president, Jay Johnson (SCHS) as vice president and Meghan McGreal (SCHS) as secretary. The Northwest District includes Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Caldwell, Watauga and Wilkes counties. Eight of the last 9 officers elected have been CCS students. |

Gamewell Middle School is being recognized by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction as North Carolina Positive Behavior Support Model School selected through the North Carolina Positive Behavior Support Initiative. Last year, Gamewell Middle was selected as a Positive Behavior Support Green School. Now, the school has achieved greater recognition as a statewide Model School. The congratulation letter from NCDPI describes Gamewell Middle as demonstrating excellent results by working together to use school data to implement research-based practices and to develop supportive systems to teach all students new behaviors. |
State and National Physical Fitness Champions: Lower Creek Elementary School wins the 2008-09 National and State Championship for the President's Challenge Physical Fitness and Sports Award, yet again.

New K-2 Literacy Assessment: Elementary teachers and administrators spent their summer months reworking and improving the Caldwell County School System K-2 Literacy Assessment. Their efforts resulted in a new assessment document to be used this school year.

Nominations are currently being accepted for the Caldwell County Schools Hall of Honor and will be accepted until December 1, 2009.

Graduation Project Presentation Night: Judges Needed |

| Seniors from across the district will be presenting their graduation projects at the high schools in December. The presentations range from learning to scuba to creating a culinary sensation. If you are interested in being a judge for the presentations, select one of the presentation nights that best fits your schedule: December 9, Career Center Middle College; December 10, Gateway School; December 10, West Caldwell; December 14, Hibriten High and December 14, South Caldwell High School. Call the school's administrative office to participate. The Graduation Project contact person at each school is Grayson Beane, Career Center; Chris Robertson, Gateway School; Kourtney Rabinowitz, Hibriten High; Jake Sigman, South Caldwell and Kathi McRary, West Caldwell. This is an excellent, first-hand opportunity to experience the benefits of the Graduation Project. |

Traci Waters and Teresa Young's second grade classes at Sawmills Elementary created instruments for a Science Sound Unit. The students displayed their crafts in a booth at the Caldwell County Agricultural Fair and won 1st place. The sound unit focused on vibrations.

Terri Garrou, 3rd grade teacher at Hudson Elementary, has been selected as the winner of the 2009 NC Entomological Society of Outstanding Elementary School Teachers Award.
