![]() Through the Years at Lower Creek School
On March 27, 1950, the Caldwell County Board of Education, consisting of V.D. Guire, George Boutwell, Davis Tuttle, John Fraizer and Clarence Sherrill, voted to build a building with an auditorium and a lunchroom to be known as the future Lower Creek Elementary School. C.M. Abernethy was superintendent of the Caldwell County Schools at the time. Lower Creek School opened in September of 1951 with grades one through seven. The faculty consisted of Jerome H. Melton, principal and the following teachers: Dean L. Waters, Oscar W. Miles, Mrs. Selma Helton, Mrs. Virginia Lashmit, Mrs. May Cook, Mrs. Thelma Barlowe and Miss Verda Francis. At the beginning of the school year, Lower Creek School added eighth grade and another teacher. The school became accredited by the NC Dept. of Public Instruction in 1954. The school continued to grow and currently has 17 classrooms in grades Kindergarten through 5th. Principals who have served the school include: Mr. Jerome H.
