![]() Welcome to my site.
A safe and successful experience for your children in school is my goal. During the elementary years, it's essential for children to develop a positive attitude about themselves and school. My mission is to enable students to achieve to their potential. This is a team effort and you and I are members of that team.
In the 2nd box (below) you will find some general information about my role in the school.
Please check my newsletter which will be updated every 9 weeks. |
School Counselors work with children individually providing a confidential setting where they can talk about whatever concerns they may have. We also work with children in small groups who share some similar concerns. These groups are usually theme oriented. It is my practice to notify parents when one of your children is in a small group and invite you to talk with them about their experience. Often, we work with students in their classrooms on various academic, career and social skills such as good study habits, exploring the world of careers and the skills needed for success in those, as well as making and keeping friends, and conflict resolution. Character education is a task I share with every member of our staff as well as our students and families. In this county we pay special attention to a particular character trait each month. Character education is basic in providing our students with a safe, orderly and caring environment here and will have the same rewards at home and in our communities. We find guidance in that quest in the North Carolina Education Informational Handbook & Guide, the 2nd edition of which is available for viewing or downloading at http://www.ncpublicschools.org/charactereducation/handbook. School Counselors work with parents, helping them to address any barriers to their child's success at school. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns about your child. One of many ways that we address academic struggling here is with our One-With-One Helpers. These adults work with a student on a weekly basis throughout the school year. If you would like to assist in this way, please call me at school at 758-1193 or e-mail me at cbarthet@caldwellschools.com. School Counselors collaborate with school staff as well as community resources on behalf of students. Students can see the school counselor by self referral and parent referral, as well as staff referral. |
