Welcome to Mrs. Libera's and Mrs. Klein's web page.

Our Classroom Rules

Always listen to your teacher. Be a good listener at all times. (ears listening, hands still, feet quiet, eyes watching and lips closed)

Raise your hand and wait to be called on before you talk.

Keep your hands and feet to yourself.

Follow directions, do what your teachers ask you to do.

Work hard and quietly everyday.

Be kind to everyone and use good manners.

Our Discipline Plan

This year we will "catch" our students being good. Each child will be given $5.00 every week. Students can also earn more play money for good behavior and lose play money for not obeying the rules and pulling cards. On Fridays the students will go to the store in our classroom and buy things with their play money. Students who do not follow the rules will pull cards.

Snack

Your child will be allowed to bring a bottle of water to school each day. They may use it through out the day. Only water will be allowed.

Please send a healthy snack to school with your child everyday.

Reading is very important! Our classroom works very hard everyday on reading. Here are some ways you can help your child learn to read. . .

Finger Pointing : This is where your child puts their finger under each word as they read the word. This is very important in learning new words.

Echo Reading : This is when you read a line or sentence and your child repeats the sentence after you.You need to make sure you point to the words as you read and your child points to the words as they read.

Rereading : Once your child reads a book, poem, etc. let them read it to you again and again.Rereading helps build your child’s sight words, which are words you just know, you don’t sound out.

Dictation : Your child can draw a picture or tell you a story. You write down what they say, just like they say it.Then let your child go back and read what was written.Make sure they finger point as they read.Read the dictation a couple of times, your child will begin to memorize the words.Everyday go back to that dictation and reread it until they know the words it in very well. You could even make a book out of the dictations that you write and have your child pick one to read each night.

Poem Reading : Letting your child memorize poems or nursery rhymes is helpful in learning new sight words.

Partner Reading : If your child get tried of reading or does not want to read try partner reading. This is where they read a page and you read a page.Make sure bother of you finger point.

Word Bank : After your child has read a book, poem, or dictation let them go back through it and see what words they know. These words need to be words they can just tell you, not sound out.Write down the words they know and put them on index cards.Keep track of how many words they know ona graph.

Concentration : Once you have at least ten words in the word bank you can play concentration.Take the words from the word bank and each word on two index cards.Place the index cards face down, where the words can’t be seen and mix them up.Then you and your child take turns turning over two cards to see if they match. If the cards match and the player can say the words, then that player keeps the cards. The player with the most cards wins.

Draw and Write : Let your child draw a picture and write a few sentences about the picture.Let them sound out the words.Do not expect the words to be spelled correctly, but spelled how the word sounds.
