ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A MIDDLE SCHOOLER???

Many of our parents and community members showed up on October 27th to find out if they were smarter than middle school students.  They had the opportunity to answer middle school level questions (with the assistance of HMS students).  One parent, Denise Allen, proved she WAS smarter than a middle schooler!

Check out the photo gallery for pictures from the event!

Continue to look for information concerning upcoming parent activities.

What is Title 1?

Title I is a federally funded education program that helps local school systems provide equal educational opportunities for low-performing students with economic need. The goal of Title I is to assist students in achieving grade level standards in the areas of reading and math. Hudson Middle School is dedicated to closing the achievement gap by breaking the ranks of middle level education and offering developmentally responsive education to each student in all content areas. Because HMS is a school-wide Title 1 school ALL students are eligible for all services provided by Title 1, except for the Supplemental Education Services.

How does a school become a Title 1 school?

A school with 35% of their students on free or reduced lunch is eligible for Title I funds. This school would be a "targeted assistance" school. When the economically disadvantaged number is over 40%, the school becomes a "schoolwide" program.

***As of October 2009, HMS was a schoolwide Title 1 school. 48.77% of our students received free or reduced lunch.

  • A targeted assistance school identifies/selects specific groups of students to serve. Unlike the schoolwide program, targeted assistance schools must focus funds on specific, "targeted" eligible children who are identified using multiple criteria.
  • Schoolwide programs are designed to advance the entire educational program within the school. A schoolwide program must address the ten components set by the federal government under school improvement.

All students are eligible for any  services provided by the school (except the SES tutoring which is available only to economically disadvantaged youth).
